Is Caffeine acceptable as a Bodybuilding supplement?
Is caffeine all right to use in bodybuilding supplements? Is caffeine an ingredient you should shun? It is not necessary. When we look at what caffeine does in the body, it is easier to see that it is a valid supplement.
Adenosine is a chemical that your body makes to make you drowsy. Adenosine links to receptors in the brain that cause blood cells to expand and nerve cell activity to decrease making you sleepy. Caffeine causes completely different reactions in the body, but to the receptors in the brain caffeine looks the same as Adenosine. Instead of getting sleepy when caffeine hooks to brain receptors, you get a burst of energy because nerve cells go faster and neuron firing in the brain is increased.
The increased neuron firing causes the pituitary gland to release adrenaline. The combination of adrenaline and rapid firing neurons gives you the “buzz” affect often experienced with caffeine. Adrenaline is the same compound that is released when your body thinks it is in danger, and it causes many reactions in the body including the following:
Your breathing tubes open up more to help you take in more oxygen so your muscles work more efficiently.
Heart rate increases to move that oxygenated blood to the muscles.
Blood vessels nearer to the skin contract, increasing blood flow to the muscles.
Blood flow to the stomach slows down.
The liver puts more sugar into the blood for more energy.
Muscles tighten getting ready for action.
You can see how all of these bodily reactions can make your workout more productive. Look at Biceps Training to see how you can combine this supplement with good form to get big biceps.
Caffeine can really be one of the best bodybuilding supplements, so don’t avoid it.
Most people can safely take about 500 mg of caffeine each day, you will train harder and longer if you take it as a supplement befor your workout. It is not necessary to drink tons of coffee or to buy costly supplements to get the caffeine you need to jump start your workout. To get the least expensive but most productive bodybuilding supplement around, you should follow this plan:
At your local drug store, find the generic brand of “No-Doze” or “Stay-Alert”. Check the active ingredients label to be sure the generic has the exact same ingredients as the name brand. Look for uncoated pills because they are more easily crushed. These pills generally have about 200 mg. of caffeine – about the same as in 2.5 cups of coffee.
About 15 minutes before your workout, crush one tablet between two spoons until it is a powder. Mix the powder with juice or coffee and drink it. After an hour or so the effects of the caffeine will diminish. Look at this article about getting big biceps or this one about ab training to see how to best use the extra boost you get from caffeine.
Some research has indicated that using caffeine may not only reduce the chances of developing Parkinson’s disease, but also may boost memory. So stop avoiding caffeine, use it to enhance muscle building.
